High Heels and Your Health

Today I've read an article about high heels and the risks of wearing it. Wearing high heels interferes with our normal gait and they throw our weight forward making it difficult to sustain upright balance. In addition, they force us to use a lot of extra muscular effort to keep from falling forward and concentrated in the lower back which lead to back pain. Other problem that we might faced including metatarsaglia(pain in the ball of the foot),bunions, calluses and hammertoe a deformity of the bones of the toe causing it to bend into a clawlike position.

So for all women who wear high heels or just about to go for it, think twice. Only wear it during important functions and make sure to check whether your shoes are the correct fit for both feet.

Do you ever make a beautiful and creative basket from old newpaper pages? It sound easy and simple and interesting right. So, for this entry, I've decided to share steps in making baskets from newspaper pages.

First, collect your old newspapers. Buy several grade school glue sticks and some medium weight florist's wire and you're ready to go! The florist's wire is not absolutely needed, it just helps a bit when you are manipulating the reeds later.

STEP 1: Make a "reed" out of a 13 1/2- by 22-inch sheet of newspaper. Starting with a long edge, tightly roll the sheet into a tube. Flatten the tube and use a glue stick to secure the open edge. Assemble seven more reeds.

STEP 2: Lay four of the reeds side by side on a flat surface and weave in the remaining four. Slide the strips together to make the bottom of the basket. Fold the ends of the reeds up to form the side spokes.

STEP 3: Now, cut newspaper sheets into four 11- by 27-inch rectangles. Using the same method as before (preferably with the wire), roll four more reeds. Tape the end of a reed to the base of a spoke. Weave the reed in and out of the spokes, around the basket.

STEP 4: Tuck the end behind a spoke. Weave in the other reeds, one above the other. Fold the tops of the spokes into the basket and tuck them behind a reed.

STEP 5: Use craft paints, lacquer or spray paints to coat the finished basket inside and out, then add decorative items or painted designs.

To make a handle, EXTEND one of the reeds on either side of the basket and then when you pull them together ober the top bind them with an extra reed to make a "thicker" handle.

Dip them into liquid starch after they're formed, so they dry stiff or lacquer them after they're painted. Finally, you also can decorate them with whatever that you like.

So, how? You get the idea! Happy Basket Making! Let's try it!

Today i have read an article about how to choose an suitable toothbrush. In this article it have recommended you to choose a suitable toothbrush from the aspect of bristled brush soften, head of brush, design of handle and neck and also power tooth brushes. After that is when you must replace your brush.According to ADA (American Dental Association) a toothbrush should be replaced every 3 months or when the bristles show signs of wear, whichever occurs first. So you should change your tooth brush every three month.

Today, I want to share something, what I have done read just now, about Hair Care Tips. I found the article from this web page http://www.haircareguide.com/tips.htm

There are some basic hair care tips that you all can use to improve the health and look of your hair.

Generally
1. a healthy lifestyle will mean healthier hair for you. Excessive stress, smoking, not exercising and not eating nutritiously are not healthy for your hair.
2. The most important is getting enough sleep.

Hair Products
1. Avoid using hair styling products with alcohol which dries out hair.
2. Avoid putting hair styling products directly on your scalp; if you put it on your scalp you'll clog the pores on your head.

Swimming
1. before entering a pool, wet your hair so your hair will soak up the initial water instead of the chlorinated water.

Drying
1. Hot air can be damaging to your hair so when using a hair dryer use the cool setting.
2. Don't leave the blow-dryer in one spot for more than a few seconds, keep it moving and at a good distance away from your hair.
3. Gently use your fingers or a pick to untangle any knots while your hair is drying.

Combing/Brushing
1. Use a brush whose bristles are made from natural animal hairs, it is softer and more flexible which means less damage will be done to your hair.
2. To keep your brushes and combs clean, wash them weekly using soap or shampoo.
3. Comb your hair to remove any tangles before brushing it.
4. Begin by combing your hair gently at the ends to get any tangles out and work your way up to the base of your hair.

Shampooing and Conditioning
1. Buy shampoos & conditioners that match your hair type, trial and error is the best way to find out what specific hair product is best for your hair.
2.Shower with warm water, hot water can dry and/or irritate the scalp.
It is important to wash your hair, shampooing removes dirt, dead skin cells, hair oils, any hair products you may put into your hair.
3. You should wash your hair as often as you feel necessary to keep it clean, but a general rule is for oily hair you should wash it every day or every other day and for dry hair only wash it 2-3 times a week.
4. Try rotating the shampoo and conditioner periodically, your hair responds differently to different products.

What is the oldest living thing on earth?

Trees live much longer than any other type of plant or animal. In fact it's possible to know the age of a tree by counting the rings in its trunk (one ring generally equates to one year). The oldest living tree and hence one of the oldest known living things on earth is a bristlecone pine tree located in California, North America, it's actually over 4600 years old, now that's old.

Do you know about the Earth Hour 2009?

As in the article I have read stated that a project of the World Wildlife Fund, Earth Hour has soared in popularity over the past few years, and now counts more than 100 cities and towns as supporters, agreeing to darken some of the nation's most famous skylines: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. Around the world more than 1,500 cities, towns and villages in 80 countries will participate, as the darkness.

Do you want to know what is the symbolic of the darkness? It is refer to a symbol of hope. The cascades across our planet, our only home. Beijing, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Mexico City, Moscow, Nairobi, Paris, Rome, Toronto and Sydney, are where the practice began.

As in Malaysia specific more to UMP, we did celebrate this event by turned off the lights at 8.30-9.30 pm last Saturday.
I hope we can save our planet from the global warming.

Friction in the workplace can be stressful and counterproductive for everyone involved. Learn to approach the person with whom you are struggling and resolve the situation. Follow these few steps to alleviate awkwardness in the workplace.

Decide whether you want to confront the person who is bothering you. It is usually better to air grievances in the open than to let them fester.

Step2Speak to the other person calmly, politely and rationally. Focus on the situation and facts, avoiding gossip and personal attacks.

Be careful not to express hostility in your posture, facial expression or tone. Be assertive without being aggressive.

Listen to the other person carefully: What is she trying to say? Be sure you understand her position.

Express interest in what the other person is saying. You can acknowledge her ideas without necessarily agreeing or submitting. Saying, "I understand that you feel this way. Here's how I feel..." acknowledges both positions.

Communicate clearly what you want, offering positive suggestions and recommendations. Be willing to be flexible.

OATMEAL

Do you remember the commercial of Quaker Oat? In that commercial, there are a few people volunteering to test the cholesterol level in their blood before and after eating the oatmeal. As a result, their cholesterol levels are decreasing! However, have you ever think how it works? It has been proven that daily consumption of a bowl of oatmeal can lower blood cholesterol, due to its soluble fiber content. In fact, the United States (US) Food and Drug Administration has claimed that food with a lot of oat bran may reduce the risk of heart disease, when combined with a low fat diet. This is due to the beta-glucan in the oats. Besides that, high content of complex carbohydrates and water-soluble fiber encourage the slow digestion and stabilizes blood glucose level. Oatmeal porridge also contains more B vitamins and calories than other porridges. But, avoid cooking the oatmeal for a long period because the cooked one has a lower GI value (glycemic index) as it will releases water-soluble fiber from the grain rather than uncooked oatmeal.

Skin cancer
Skin cancer symptoms can sometimes be easily overlooked. Much is written about the disease, but just how much do you know? Here is the cause of skin cancer:
Ultraviolet light - from sunlight or sunbeds - is the main cause of skin cancer. It can damage the DNA that makes up the genes in skin cells. The wrong type of damage to the wrong genes will make a cell become cancerous. There are three types of UV light, called A, B and C. UVC is filtered out by the atmosphere and does not get to our skin. UVB was originally found to cause sunburn and skin cancer, but more recently, it has been discovered that UVA can also cause skin cancer.
UVB is known to cause sunburn and skin cancer, so most sunbeds were originally designed to produce UVA only. However, more recent research has found that UVA can also cause skin cancers. As a result, many modern sunbeds produce far less UVA, although others still produce very high levels.

Study Group Tips

If you decide to form a study group, you will need to establish some rules or guidelines to keep the group from losing enthusiasm. There is some tips that I think are work up:

* Limit the size of your group to three to six students for best results. I think too many voices adds confusion.

* If you have eight or more students who are interested in group study, simply form two groups and mix the membership from time to time. This will avoid hurt feelings and avoid having a stronger and weaker group.

* Don't feel you have to limit yourself to study only with your friends. Pick smart people who do homework if your goal is to improve your grades.

* Establish a regular meeting place and time and encourage each other.

* Give your group a name. This will give the group a stronger identity and encourage participation.

* At your first meeting, encourage each member to talk about his/her strengths that will help the group.

* Predict test questions and quiz each other.

* Create a code word or prize for good ideas. Everyone likes to receive a pat on the back. Come up with a special word or small reward to congratulate group members when they come up with a "zinger."

Do you like to eat popcorn. I love to eat popcorn especially when watch the movies. Popcorn is a popular snack at sporting events and in cinemas. Popcorn or popping corn is a type of corn, which explodes from the kernel and puffs up when heated. Did you know that popcorn was first discovered thousands of years ago by the Native Americans, who believed that the popping noise was that of an angry god who escaped the kernel.Popcorn varieties are broadly categorized by the shape of the kernels, the color of the kernels, or the shape of the popped corn. As we all know, popcorn is usually served salted or sweetened. However, popcorn is naturally high in fiber, low in calories and fat, contains no sodium, and is sugar free. As a snack food, popcorn has both advocates and detractors. Some consider it to be a health food, while others caution against it for a variety of reasons. Popcorn can also have non-food applications, ranging from holiday decorations to packaging materials.

Tok Janggut

One of Kelantan’s most famous folk heroes is Wan Muhammad Hassan Wan Muhammad Yunus, better known as Tok Janggut (The Bearded Headman).

The headman of a village called Kampung Nering in Pasir Putih, Kelantan, Hassan was a Silat (traditional Malaysian martial art originating in Johor) exponent and businessman.

It was he who led a peasant rebellion against British colonial rule in Kelantan in 1915. The rebellion ended with his death at the hands of Britain’s troops during a battle at his fort in Pasir Putih.

The British had his body hung upside down for four hours in the town field of Kota Baru, the Kelantan state capital, but it was given a decent burial on the orders of Sultan Muhammad Petra 4, the then Kelantan monarch.

Hassan, who was 1.8 metres tall and had a Santa Claus beard, opposed the excessive taxation which Britain imposed on the people of Kelantan, especially the low-income peasants.

He was not against befriending the British, but he resented their patronising attitude towards the indigenous people of Malaysia who were racially labelled as lesser beings only fit for being peasants.

His rebellion had such broad support in the countryside that Britain had to send troops in three warships from Singapore to crush it.

A telemovie about Hassan’s life and struggle was made in the 1970s and starred the late, great Malaysian actor Ismail Din, who died during a pilgrimage to Mecca in 2005.
